Pilsen
Pilsen has a population of 200.000 inhabitants and has developed into a cultural and financial centre in the West Bohemia. It lies 90 km west of Prague and access to/ from Prague is possible either by bus or by rail. On a high speed train, transfer time to Prague is approximately 90 minutes. There are daily itineraries and very frequent connections, both by train or by bus. The bus terminal in Prague is situated near the metro station and is called “Florence”.
In Pilsen lots of Faculties and Regional Institutions have been established, among which 40 secondary education Schools and Universities, one of which is Charles University in Prague, Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry. This fact has resulted in hosting a large amount of students, thus becoming a city full of life.
The modern sports facilities, the nearby trips and excursions to nature offer the students the opportunity to incorporate sporting activities in their daily routine. The theatres, the music events, the shopping centres and the nightlife in Pilsen are just a few of the attractions that can enhance everyday’s routine and offer moments of relaxation and entertainment.
Pilsen is a clean, friendly, modern city, with very good transportations. It was the cultural capital city of Europe for the year 2015, with great success.
STUDENTS’ COST OF LIVING IN PILSEN
A sum of around €300/ month (approx. 8.000 CZK) can cover the following basic expenses:
- Meals:The University has a restaurant where students can enjoy a full meal at a cost of €2-€5.
- Transportation:The student’s pass for the public means of transport costs 1000 CZK for 6 months, or approximately €40.
Accommodation: Accommodation costs depend on the size and the location of the house. The apartments that are closer to the University premises are more expensive. The monthly rent for a studio in Pilsen is around €350- €500. For a 2-room apartment, with a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom, the monthly rent is between €400- €650. The rate includes heating, water, electricity bills. Some apartments can be fully or partly furnished. The rate doesn’t include internet fees. In the town of Pilsen accommodation can also be provided at the University Halls of Residence, where 4 students share 2 twin rooms with a shared bathroom, toilet and kitchen. The cost is approximately €135/ month.
